John Edward Ellis grew up in West Africa, Europe, and the Northeastern United States. His essays and articles have been published in African Writer Magazine, Relief Journal, the Kalahari Review, Able Muse Review, Embodied Effigies Magazine, Jonah Magazine, and elsewhere. His memoir about teaching underprivileged youth in San Francisco and traversing the Mojave Desert is forthcoming. Ellis is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to Senegal and a graduate fellowship from Saint Mary’s College of California, where he earned an M.F.A. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Veterans Studies.
