The Infinittians
They do not live their lives
In fear of death,
Yet, they are not ready to perish
Unnatural deaths.
They hear the bird-calls louder
Than other people do,
And they feel nature as a womb
Of redeeming solitude.
They always know they live
Longer than everyone else.
They do not loathe the night
Because they believe the sunlight
Will wake them up.
They are not jealous of flowers;
They feel they can give to the world
What they own.
They do not let a celebration
Pass them by;
They seek springs of redemption.
They do not hide their wings,
Where flight is forbidden.
——
shades
i crave
to sit in your shade
as this fiery sun melts
on my forehead.
i want to soothe old scalds
but you long to imbibe
the sweet sap from my core
till i am all you,
but
when i walk away,
i do not curse or frown.
i smear the rays of the sun
upon me cheeks
to build my own shade.
if you wished
for laments to fill up
the field,
you will not see me tally
the shades
i have chased
that never soothed me.

The Birds
What if the birds do not sing?
At the edge of the homestead,
A blue jay shakes off its wings,
Last night’s rain.
A flutter of wings,
Then a steady flight upwards,
Before landing upon another branch,
And letting out a sharp shriek.
The morning is cold and soft sunlight
Filters through a white fog.
I watch the moves of the jay
While seated around the stove’s fire,
In the grass-thatched hut.
The blue jay may not
Be akin to a songstress,
Waking up in an executive suite,
Jumping on stage to the cheers
Of a filled-up stadium.
What if the birds do not sing,
And the expressions
They make are for euphoria,
Want, or appeals to God?
